Weingart Editorial Spread

Wolfgang Weingart was a German graphic designer, nicknamed “the father” of the New Wave/Swiss Punk design movement. He taught at Basel School of Design in Basel, Switzerland and inspired students like April Greiman, who paved the way for Postmodernism. This spread covers Weingart’s legacy, including design elements of his aesthetic to embody the ordered chaos that he took in his approach with typography.

The New Wave and Postmodernism movements have fascinated me throughout my time in design school. By using an extremely limited color palette, I challenged myself to create an interesting layout using type, shapes, and contrast with Weingart’s vision in mind.

Cosmopolitan Refresh

This Cosmo redesign was created for an editorial design course with the goal of updating an existing magazine. At the time of this project, season two of Euphoria was running, so it felt obvious to choose a member of the cast. In my eyes, Alexia Demie (who plays Maddy Perez) is “slept on” and seemed deserving of the cover and feature spread. The updated Cosmo concept also utilizes a listed layout with a highlighted section for the Beauty Blender. Lastly, a second feature on dating scams that includes a pull quote was included to further the direction of my vision and add variety.

Through careful color choices and type studies, a consistent look was achieved and adds a youthful energy for the younger Cosmopolitan demographic.
