Figure Drawing Series: Hair
Hair is a series of work that is deeply personal to me, and marks a turning point in my drawing journey. Art and psychology are intertwined, which is why I chose to pursue it as one of my minors. These pieces explore this relationship, and were created when I lived completely alone in a dorm during 2021.
I focused on form throughout the series, using blending stubs to reach subtle shifts in value, conveying a sense of softness. The harsh, graphic marks juxtapose the dainty figures as they slowly surround and consume her.
These works are intended to address and visualize feelings of overwhelming anxiety, but I believe every viewer will perceive and internalize them differently, as our experiences from the past shape the way we view the world.
